Before planning to set up a website many factors have to be considered that will effect the website and what effect it will have on a browser's experience when visiting the website. The functionality of a website can be majorly affected by a number of factors that i will discuss.

Download speed has to considered because if my website will be displaying film trailers then the downloads speed has to be fast so that visitors to my website do not become frustrated. The internet connection quality can cause download speed to act up in a particular way, cable internet, for example, is one of the most widely used internet connection types. Downloading is usually very fast at around 10 megabits per second (Mbps). This will play movie trailers in no time if in working order. File size has a great impact on download speed, larger files take longer to download. If a film trailer on my website is large in size it may take longer to play in comparison to other files, to avoid this i could set myself a file size limit when uploading videos onto my website.

PC performance will be important for anybody visiting my website wanting to watch the movie trailers on my website because if their PC is slow and not working very well, then the videos may start lagging or take a very long time to play. Bandwidth is involved in a PC’s performance, it determines how much information the processor can process in one instruction. A PC with a bandwidth of 64-bit (standard) should have no issues when being used to visit my website.

Cache size of a PC will have an impact on the functionality of my website. Cache is a small amount of memory that is part of the CPU. A cache helps the computer to function a lot quicker because the RAM is not involved as much. The more cache there is, the more data can be stored closer to the CPU, therefore the more cache, the better PC performance.

Processor speed will have a direct impact on the functionality of my website, because with my website having many film trailers on it, a processor has to be able to process all of the information in a short amount of time in order to play the videos when demanded to by a user.

Server side effects

Web server capacity will affect my web sites performance quality, bandwidth refers to how much data your Internet connection can transmit; the more bandwidth you have, the more data you can load at once.Having a high bandwidth connection is essential for websites that deliver streaming media, those that load a lot of high-resolution content on one page or those that deliver large data downloads, therefore i will need a high bandwidth in order for my website to function properly.

Executions to be performed before page load have to be considered when a website's functionality is to be determined. When a web page is loaded, it has to get such things as the Css style, images and all other data that goes with it, so when the webpage is actually loaded users may feel that the execution is poor because it has taken so long to load. However a way of making the loading speed faster would then be to start using java script which will immediately speed the process of execution.

Number of hits is the retrieval of an item such as a web page or image from a web server, e.g. is a web page with 6 images is requested by a user, that would be 7 hits. The more hits requested at once, the longer load speed, for example a webpage with 20 images would take alot longer to load than the webpage with 6 images.

File types can vary a lot, ranging from bitmap, vector,jpg, GIF etc and file type is what a file contains so this may be in the form of a document images etc. To identify a file the computer will use something called a file extension which will identify the particular type of file. So for example  a jpeg” file,  is more compressed and of  a lower quality compared to a wave file, therefore it would take a shorter time to load, so the more compressed and low quality a file is the less time it will take to load in comparison to a file which is of high quality.

The Data Protection Act (DLA) is an A of Parliament of the United Kingdom which defines a law on the processing on data of living people. It is the main piece of lawful information that protects individuals private data. This law dictates how businesses and organizations use your information that is important to you, for example shopping online websites would take this law very seriously. The law means that organisations must keep a person's information to themselves and cannot share it with other organizations/individuals.

Viruses can be easily picked up online and are able to spread quickly causing quite a lot of damage to a computer. Computer viruses are able to replicate themselves and infect a desktop. If a website owner's website becomes infected with a virus it will able to do more than just affect your computer and website but will probably spread to other users visiting your website, this has the potential to infect many computers at once.  There may also be performance defects to your website, e.g. crashing or unresponsive.

Hacking involves exploiting weaknesses in a website/computer software to gain useful information. Hackers intend to force their way through protection barriers and gain access to the computer owner’s information, this could be passwords, accounts or bank details. Most hackers

A learning style is a personal preference in terms of how a person learns to do something. People personalities shape the ways in which they prefer to learn, for example an active person is more likely to enjoy working via the kinesthetic technique as it suits their personality.

There are three learning styles that can be favoured by different types of people, these are:

-visual is a technique in which ideas and concepts and other information are associated with images and colours. maps to organize information and communicate with others. You can easily visualize objects, plans and outcomes in your mind, which is why this technique is effective. It is one of the more favoured learning techniques used by many people e.g. school teachers, and whiteboards are often used with drawings and diagrams normally in colour.

-auditory learning is a style in which somebody learns more efficiently through hearing information passed onto them. An auditory person depends on listening and speaking skills in order to learn effectively. An auditory learner depends on hearing and speaking as a main way of learning. Auditory learners must be able to clearly hear the information they are receiving and may struggle to understand instructions in the form of a diagram, however if the writing is in logical order they can benefit much more.  Auditory learners must be in a quiet environment in order to gain a clear understanding of what is being said to them, background noise can potentially jeopardise their learning.

-tactical/ kinesthetic is a method in which learning takes place via physical activity being carried out. Some people may find that when they perform a physical activity they can remember the order of instructions or information. Kinesthetic learners are unlikely to benefit from being spoken to as a method of learning. Kinesthetic learners learn through doing an activity rather than thinking before initiating activity and may struggle to learn by reading or listening.

When developing my skills this year i have used auditory learning techniques, this has been done by my teacher giving presentations and verbal information on how to complete tasks. I think that this learning technique has been successful because the information passed on can be easily interpreted into actions. I think that using the auditory learning technique for the units this year has been more effective than if i was to use any other technique because it makes things much more clearer and gives my a full understanding on everything it is that i am required to do.

The visual learning technique has also been used, my teacher has showed us images on screen and annotated them to show how to complete certain tasks, e.g. all tasks that use Photoshop software.

VAK which stands for Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic is there so that people can find out what learning style they benefit from mostly. This is done by completing a questionnaire. The importance of this system is so that people can have a better understanding on how their brain prefers to work.

VARK which stands for Visual, Auditory, Read and Kinesthetic is about gaining an understanding of preferred learning styles which is performed by doing a test. Most teachers use this test so they can make sure that they are delivering the work in the right way for all of the learners.

Verbal Communication - Throughout this unit i have used verbal communication with my peers to give advice on how to complete a task or to ask for guidance myself in order to effectively complete a task. I regularly communicate with  my teacher for information on how to complete a task correctly. The advantages of verbal communication include that body language can be interpreted and both people can check understanding with each other to reassure that the correct information is being passed on. The disadvantages are that it can distract a person from the work that they are doing, and also there is no record of the conversation.

Teacher broadcasting demonstration - This technique has been used frequently throughout the year, my teacher would stand up in front of the class and tell everybody exactly what to do and how to do it so that we do not acquire any extra guidance in order to complete the task. This is effective because it means that every student is focused at the same time so that the teacher doesn't have to speak to every individual student once at a time, which is time consuming. The disadvantages of this technique is that some students may be absent of not paying attention meaning that the teacher has to use their own time to go over the tasks with individual students.

Using blogger - I have used blogger to publish my work to be marked by my teacher throughout all of this year, this is an efficient way of publishing work because it allows you to add your teachers as authors so that they can go onto your work and mark it on their own computer. Using blogger is a quick an easy way for my teachers to mark my work when i have completed. The disadvantages of using blogger is that other people can view your work that you publish and copy the work, so when the teacher marks a students work on blogger it could be copied from another student.

Using G mail - I have used G mail all year round for various reasons e.g. to ask teachers for advice or guidance on work, and also to use Google drive to complete work. Using google drive allows me to complete my work at home in my spare time so that i have more time in school to do other work. The only slight disadvantage is that you have to trust google with your work so that it is always going to be saved, because work automatically saves itself into google’s cloud.

Publishing images - I have published images to show the work that i have completed on google calendar, Photoshop etc for when the file cannot be directly uploaded to blogger to be marked. This is useful because it is quick and easy and is done just by the click of a button on a keyboard, anybody can do it. The disadvantage is that when expanding the photo to a bigger size it can become slightly distorted with small text.

Using PowerPoint - I have used PowerPoint in order to create slides to show effective communication techniques and barriers to effective communication. I have also used it to create a dummies guide on how to create charts and graphs. The advantages of this are that they are very easy to create and can also be saved as a JPEG and uploaded to blogger to be marked by the teacher. The disadvantage of using power point is that the amount of space on each slide is limited.

Using google calendar - I have used google calendar in order to allocate myself times and dates in which i will train my computer skills on areas that I have less ability in than others. As part of task 3 i was required to use google calender and i have done so successfully. The advantages of google calendar are that it is easy to use and dates can be highlighted to make it easily recognisable as to when you should be doing something on a certain date. The disadvantage is that it can only be accessed on the internet, so if the internet was experiencing technical difficulties you would not be able to access google calendar.
